Baby Teething Rattle

Little Ones will love this cute Crochet Rattle and Teething Toy! This unique handmade toy is the perfect gift for a new baby or for baby showers!

The wooden ring is just the right size for your baby’s gentle little hand, and the crochet flower has a beautiful, soft touch with a gentle rattle sound.

This is a great first toy for your little ones starting from 3 months when they are learning how to grab and hold things in their little hands and also during those tough teething times as well. The rattle inside the toy helps improve hand eye coordination by stimulating their senses.

I have made the crochet rattle with 100% quality cotton yarn (made in Australia). The wooden ring is made from pure, untreated hardwood with no finishing, which is perfectly safe for your baby to put in their mouth. No additives, chemicals, dyes or other nasties are added during the making of these rings.

Each ring has a 60mm diameter and is 11mm thick (internal hole measures approx 36mm).

Please note that although it is intended for babies, this toy should be used under adult supervision.

Personalised Girl Monkey

Personalised Girl Monkey

It’s been an amazing 7 months with my beautiful baby girl Olive and now I have decided it’s time to get back to crocheting my toys.

I have made a few changes to my toys, they are smaller so I can get them made a bit faster (with a little one I have less free time) and the design has changed slightly. Over the next few weeks, I’ll be creating new teddy’s, bunny’s, monkey’s and if I can find grey yarn the very popular elephant. Hope you love my new Monkey. I think she’s gorgeous!

Crochet Baby Boots

I’ve been looking for a cute pair of crocheted boots to make for my baby girl and I found this free pattern design by Ashlee Marie. They are so adorable I wanted to share it with you.

Ashlee has two patterns sizes for the “Crochet wrap around button infant boots” I used the larger version for my baby girl who is 7 months old ( baby boots size 4 pattern).  There is also two designs one with a scalloped edge for girls and without a  scalloped edge for boys.

I found the pattern very easy to follow, so if you have a little one or know someone who would love these adorable boots visit Ashlee Marie blog and get crocheting.

The Wool Inn

The Wool Inn

When I started creating the personalised monkeys I was using acrylic yarns which looked great, but as the monkeys became more popular I wanted to explore other options. So I started to use Panda Cotton Blend which is 50% Cotton and 50% Acrylic which gave a much softer feel. But I wanted to offer a more natural yarn, Sugar n’ Cream by Lily is a 100% cotton yarn which is one of the most popular yarns to use when making amigurumi.

Now the task was to find an Australian Independent Wool Shop that sold Sugar n’ Cream yarn. I discovered a shop called The Wool Inn, they have a huge range of quality yarns and especially the yarn I was looking for Sugar n’ Cream. Anita was very helpful so if you need any advice on what wool to use or any other knitting question she’s the lady to see. The Wool Inn is located in Penrith NSW, but if that’s too far you to travel then visit their website http://the-wool-inn.com where you can purchase your yarns and other knitting or crochet accessories. Don’t forget to help support local business visit https://www.facebook.com/thewoolinn and like their page.

Our new soft toy range are made with 100% Cotton Yarn (Sugar ‘n Cream by Lily), not only is it a natural fibre but I love the feel of it. Also when using 100% cotton for our toys it doesn’t stretch and it holds their shape much better. I’m really loving look and feel of our adorable personalised toys. If you would love to give one of our Adorable Personalised Soft Toys to someone precious in your life, please visit our online shop https://www.indiebird.com.au/

** Unfortunately Sugar n Cream don’t make the beige yarn anymore and I will no longer be using this yarn to make our toys.

Hey there Crafty Frog!

Hey there Crafty Frog!

If you have read our recent posts you will notice that we’re getting quite crafty here at Indiebird and Kylie especially has a talent for crochet. The wool that we have been using has been sourced from a large retail chain which goes against our belief. When possible purchase from your local independent business, so with a little research  Kylie discovered in her home town of Canberra a little shop called the Crafty Frog. They are definitely a one stop needle workshop and have a huge range of  embroidery, cross stitch, knitting, crochet, tapestry and  beading supplies, and now have branched out into papercraft. The difference you will experience with your local independent store is simply the relaxed, helpful and inviting atmosphere. Laura at The Crafty Frog expertly assisted Kylie in selecting exactly what she needed, then allowed her the pleasure of just browsing the store, with so many things to choose from I’m sure Kylie could have spent all day in her personal heaven. Not only did The Crafty Frog make Kylie’s visit easy and pleasurable but the prices were more than competitive with The Crafty Frogs wool that Kylie purchased being 49c cheaper per ball than at the larger retail store. How Awesome!!

So if you are into crochet (like us) or embroidery, knitting, beading go to the Crafty Frog (if you live in Canberra) or visit her websitecraftyfrog.com.au where they have an online store.

Easter with Love

Wow, are we in March already? I can not believe that Easter is just around the corner! Depending on your beliefs, Easter is a special time for us to remember that Jesus died for us on the cross and the celebration of his resurrection. But of course for many of us and our children, Easter is also marked by a magical visit by the Easter bunny to leave behind goodies, usually some scrumptious chocolate eggs.

However more and more we are seeking to commemorate this event with something special. Check out these incredibly adorable hand crafted bunnies lovingly made by Kylie. With so much effort and love gone into creating each of these gorgeous little bunny’s you know that it will make a special Easter gift to mark one of the most sacred holidays of our year!

HAPPY EASTER!

Love Kylie and Veronica xx.

Sock Animals

Sock Animals

The Sock Monkey has to be the cutest thing I’ve made this month. If you are handy with the sewing machine (even a newbie) the sock monkey was really quick and easy to make. This is such a cute gift for kids!

After seaching the web on how to make the sock monkey (there is so many different versions) I found the best tutorial on the Craft Passion website.

To make this sock monkey you can download the free pattern from Craft Passion
